why did queen + paul rogers break up?

Answer #1

Freddie Mercury died of AIDS, and the band had no frontman. Paul Rogers teamed up with Brian May and Roger Taylor as part of a collaboration effort, and went by the name Queen+Paul Rodgers. They were never a true “band” so to speak, and Brian May stated that Paul was not replacing Freddie nor would the band ever look for a real replacement.

Paul Rodgers focused on his solo career after two tours, a few DVDs, and a studio album which concluded 5 years of work with Queen. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of working with Queen again in the future. He ended up performing a one night show with Bad Company, and then earlier this year was contacted by Aerosmith to be the lead vocalist. So to answer your question, Paul Rodgers wanted to pursue some other musical efforts for a period of time.
