Can you put cans in the fridge?

My mum has always said it’s bad to put cans in the fridge, recently I was at a friend’s house and they had cans in their fridge, when I questioned said cans, he was like wtf no cans are fine in the fridge. Who is right?

Answer #1

Of course. I do all the time.

Answer #2

You shouldn’t put open cans of food in the refrigerator. An open can allows air to come in contact with the metal of the can. This can allow the metal to seep into the food, contaminating it.

Answer #3

But don’t put them in the freezer because they might explode

Answer #4

However, doing it anyways won’t kill you, my family does it too, and none of us are dead, but then again, the cans don’t stay in the fridge for long due to the fact I live with a lot of family, so things go fast.

Answer #5

Only if they’re not opened.

Answer #6

If the cans are unopened you can store it in the fridge, but storing it in the fridge is unnecessary unless you want the contents to be cold. If food is opened, however, you should transfer the food out of the can. It’s not a good idea to leave the food in an open can.
