puppy question

at what age does a puppy (westie 13 weeks) can start holding its pee in through the night? when mine gets all excited she piddles everywhere, its a rush to get her out into the garden!!! when will she grow out of this?

Answer #1

potty training takes a long time… you can never actually be sure that they can hold it in until they are almost 18 months.

but if you keep working with her, she’ll start to understand that you are supposed to pee outside… be consistant though cause if you’re not, it will just take longer.

try taking her out just before you go to bed, and immediately in the morning. get up a little later every day.

Answer #2

She should be able to hold it all night by now…but it’’s hard to enforce if she isnt’ crated. A dog should be well house trained by 4 or 5 months…(at least for peeing and pooping…just not trustworthy to not chew)…Keep to a schedule for feeding and put up the water by 9:00 pm…

However, the peeing she does when she gets excited is “submissive urination”…Ignore that…making a big deal out of it (or correcting her for it) can make it worse.

Maybe picking her up and carrying her to her pad, or outdoors will keep her from going until she gets to her “pee destination”…
