Puppies and fleas

my puppy (poodle/chiuaua) is about 8 weeks old and is going to get his shots tomorrow. On the weekend my son left the door open and he got out, we found him playing outside with the neighbors dog which is infested with fleas and now so is my puppy and my other house dog (mini pinscher). How can I get rid of the fleas and will my puppy get sick? hes so tiny and infested!

Answer #1

a very safe an succesfull way to get rid of fleas with out harming the puppy or any thing else is by bathing the puppy in the (green) dawn dish soap. I say the green kind because its the original an its grease fighting. fleas have greacy little bodies thats why it works so well. it will kill basically all of them on contact. you can just lather your dog up with it an leave him set for about 5 mins maybe a lil longer.make sure you avoid the dogs head tho because it can hurt the eyes if the soap gets in them. you MAY have to repeat a second time. dont get the dog all wet befor you put the soap on tho because all the fleas will run to his head. just mix the water an soap together in a cup or something an pour it right on avoidin the eyes. any other questions just e-mail me

DO NOT use any flea soap or sprays or dips on this pup…Read the directions, and you’ll see that there is an age limit for usage of these products. 8 weeks is far too young…they can kill your pup.

When you go to the Vet tomorrow, pick up some Frontline or Advantage…the Vet will know which dosages to use for both your min pin and the pup…

They have a flea spray that will kill them on contact. Took my cat up to the vet that had the same problem and they sprayed him down.

Answer #5

Listen to me, ASK your vet. We see to many dogs and cats that get sick and do die from giving to much of a dose or over the counter flea and tick treatments that are sooo toxic. Until you see or call the vet you can use a mild soap Like Dawn and just give the pup a bath.

There are treatments like Frontline and Advantage who will fit your puppies age and weight. PLEASE PLEASE do not use over the counter OR give this young dog a “dip”

And do not use Sergents Gold I believe the name is. Very bad stuff.

You can do a flea bath too. These are harsh chemicals, so use as directed. Or get a flea dip at the vet, if possible. A normal bath can help too. At least somewhat. Many fleas will drown and your dog will have some relief. Like if you catch some in your hair, a normal hair-washing should fix you.

You have to worry about your house too because of fleas and flea eggs which can lay dormant for some time. They won’t survive cold though. Again, normal laundering should be enough, and maybe a spray for upholstery and carpeting.

Your vet will likely recommend flea collars too. Not for you, for the dogs. Good luck.

Answer #7

get some frontline for him…obv for puppies so it is a smaller amount..or got to the vets ask them what you could do bout them..problem is there not gunna stay away forever fleas also live in the grass from gettin off other animals. But dont leave it long cause the fleas are very irratable and if they dont get sorted your puppy will come up in scabs from constant scratching :( hope you get it sorted :)
