Should I self-publish or find a publishing company for my book?

I’ve been working on my autobiography for about a year. Now that I’m done should I go with a traditional publishing house or go self published which costs a lot of money? I don’t want to give my rights over to a traditional publishing house initially because I know they will give me pennies because this is my first book.

Hi onemanarmy,

Why not try to find an independent publishing house? It isn’t all or nothing, one huge publishing house or you’re on your own. Look into local publishing houses that can help you.

I self published two books. When you self publish only get the minimum, maybe 200 to 500 copies. Then try and have a friend book you on different tv shows that would be interested in the content. You will make more per copy, but it is way harder to get your message out there. When you get a publisher you will get more exposure. If I were you try and do both. Familycoach

That makes alot of sense. I already have a couple of t.v. shows in mind. I also plan on sending a copy to Oprah Winfrey.
