Why is it that public schools require you to go a certain amount of days or you wont pass into the next grade?

Is it because they wont get paid for teaching you if you arnt there for certain amount of time?

Answer #1

Public schools follow a curriculum that’s taught throughout the whole district or county. The lessons are structured in a specific way with material being taught over certain days. So if you miss so many days, you miss so much of the material that it’s assumed students missing that many days couldn’t have learned the material effectively enough to pass standardized testing. When schools’ test scores are bad, that school can lose accreditation and funds. So rather than risk the school’s well being on the back of one student, they put an attendance policy in motion that will help the school monitor which students need to be held back or re-introduced to the curriculum.

Also, student attendance is one of the ways school funding is determined. Every time students are absent, it leads to less resources to educate the students who are actually at school.
