Psychology- is it worth it?

I’m currently majoring in animal behavior to study language… Possibly in the jungles, etc. Field work

I’ve been wondering if I should change my major to psychology- to be like a shrink. I like listening to people, picking ppls brains, and helping them to feel better.

Im wondering if there are any out there that think it would be worth it to change… Thanks

You have to be strong for this job. I was doing my intern there and it was just so depressing and I know I couldn’t do it because it makes me sad and I’m quite emotional. I also love to help people but some cases are so sad I just can’t help but to get sad too hearing their pain. If you’re strong emotional wise I would give it a shot if its what you really want to do.

I love it. If you like studying behavior then psychology is definitely a field that will interest you. Remember that psychology does not limit what you can do. Realize that you need to get either a masters or doctoral level in order to become a therapist. You may not be satisfied with the masters level because there little analysis and assessment. Then again, do you want to spend 6 years (after your bachelors) getting your phd? These are things you have to figure out.

If your heart is set on animal health and psychology, stick with it. Clinical psychology or in your case behavioral psychology is best studied with subjects are are animals, instead of “animals” see what I did there? Anyways, this is my Alma Mater TCSPP http://www.thechicagoschool.edu/Chicago/Our_Programs/PsyD_in_Clinical_Psychology if you are really hell bent on studying human psychology. Think of i this way, if you stick with animal subjects, they are less likely to sue you and more likely to bite you instead. And between you an me, I’d rather get bitten. Good luck with your endeavors
