It’s an Internet site that you go to and the site has… imagine it like a web browser inside the site.

Using that site, your Internet provider, the FBI, your school or your parents (if they are IT specialists) can only find out that you contacted the proxy frame site. They will not be able to find out which site you actually visited.

Likewise, the Internet site that you visit can only determine that it has been requested by someone who used the proxy. They will not be able to find out who (which IP address) requested them.

A proxy can also filter out scripts, cookies and ads. Some of them have optional check boxes where you can allow of disallow these.
