do you like predictable or unpredictable people?

Answer #1

Well, like my drinking preferences, I am inclined towards liking most people regardless, without being consciously aware of whether I class them as predictable or not.

However, having pondered your question, I have come to the conclusion that everybody I know is predictable in some respects, but unpredictable in others.

I know people who are PREDICTABLY unreliable - so when they say they will do something specific or be somewhere at a particular time, it is totally UNPREDICTABLE whether they will or not, so I cannot rely on them to do anything important.

I know people who are predictably entertaining - for the very reason that I cannot predict how their conversation or behaviour will amuse me, though I can predict that I will be amused, so I enjoy their company a lot.

On the other hand, I also know people who are predictably dull and lacking in originality. They are often predictably repetitive in their conversation and predictably limited in the range of activities that they are willing to engage in. Needless to say, I enjoy their company less than those who are predictably entertaining and full of “joie de vivre”.

So, the conclusion that I come to is: I like the people who are predictably unpredictable more than the people who are predictably predictable, unless they are predictable in their unpredictable reliability or unpredictable in their predictable unreliability.

Now, I bet you can’t predict what I am going to drink after this crate of Theakstons “Old Peculier” that I have nearly finished during lunch.
