What do people do with their poinsettias after Christmas?

What do people do with their poinsettias after Christmas is over? Nobody ever has them, it seems, after Christmas… but it seems such a shame to throw out them in the freezing cold.

Answer #1

Poinsettias are not poisonous. Thats a myth.

Answer #2

My grandmother grinds the pedlas with rose pedals and glycerin into like a paste, and puts it on her lips to keep them “rosy”

Answer #3

Keep them! The rich throw them away and buy new ones next year. I have saved mine for 8 years in a row and it is taller than me. Please, if you want a beautiful bodacious house plant, you must keep! If you do not want it, I will pay for the shipping and handling to receive it from you. Think about it before you act please :P

Answer #4

my mom keeps them until they die. I know some people who just throw them away though. I feel like you should keep them until they die because they are just too pretty!

Answer #5

Pointsettas are poisonous. I wouldn’t grind them up and put them on my lips if I were her.

Answer #6

You can keep them alive but you can’t just treat it like a normal houseplant and hope it flowers again next year.

In March you cut them down to about 4 inches high. Give them lots of fertilizer and lots of light during the day. After the last frost move it outside. You then pinch it back to shape it and promote new growth, and then before it starts to get cold, move it back inside, stop fertilizing it and put it in the dark at dusk every day to simulate short days and long nights for 10 weeks before around Dec 15.
