Why is it that when I try to play a video off a DVD my laptop takes forever to load it and it simply stays stuck there?

Answer #1

Is that something new or has it always been like that? Does that happens with all videos or just some? If it has always been like that then it means your laptop doesn’t have good enough video hardware and memory for that kind of demand. If it happens now, then it may be several things. You may have too many things running in the background that are using memory, it may be a video format your laptop doesn’t support, your video chip is over heated, your drivers for your laptop need updating and so many other things.

Oh, it’s something that’s been reoccurring. I recently reinstalled the OS too. I have tons of memory on this laptop so I guess it’s the video hardware?

Answer #3

It depends if you have a dedicated video chip. Does your laptop has a decal that say, ATI or that it say Nvidia? If it does then you need to go to the nvidia or ATI website and download the latest drivers for the chip. For ATI you would need to go to AMD now. Right click on “my computer” then click on “properties” then click on “device manager” and then click on display adapter. What does that say? If you google the model number of your laptop then you can go to the manufacturer and find out if you have a dedicated video chip. If your laptop was not very expensive, then it does not have a dedicated video chip and it shares the system memory. But if it was playing video’s before, then I dunno, maybe try a different video player. A real good and free video player is available at gomlab.com
