Lots of puss coming out of lip piercing?

Is it normal to have puss coming out of a lip piercing? A friend of mine just recently had her lip pierced(Marilyn-style) there is a lot of puss and its very red and swollen..

yeah it does sound as if it is infected but what do I know im no expert

I have the same problem but its not red its yellowish..

Well the discharge (puss) can be a good or a bad sign… It depends on the colour, if its yellow-ish, thats okay its just healing, but if its green-ish thats a sign of it being infected.

And being red and swollen is also normal for new piercings, but it shouldn’t last long on the lip, basically about 1 week top (mine lasted 2 days)… So if it’s been longer then 1 week, it’s probably irratated (could be infected).

If her piercing is quite sore as well as being red, swollen, and the discharge, then its infected so she should have it checked out…

Yeah, if she just got it done, the puss is normal. But if the swelling doesn’t go down within a couple of days, something is wrong. Tell her to rinse the area with water and salt (they also sell these solutions at walgreens or CVS). This prevents infection.
