Well, I know I’d use a muzzle before I bite a dogs ear…sounds like a good way to get it in the face…not mention it’d make future trimming of nails far more traumatic than it should be. The object is that the dog will allow this, with no fear…There is a little dominance/submission involved, but for your own dog to actually bite you, I “feel” it’s more of a fear thing.

I had to work my way up to trimming all the nails…trim one, give a treat, and make BIG out of it…trim two, feed a treat, make BIG…then quit. The next day go for a couple more nails…doing it the same way…treat and BIG praise…eventually you’ll be able to do ALL the toenails at one time…There will have been NO trauma associated with it…only treats and lots and lots of praise…

Their is a way to hole the dog so they can’t bite you and they will surender to you because you are showing domince as the pack leader. I believe this is what Ohehmgeeitsme- dad is doing by “bititing” the ears.

Anyway you will need help, and here are two ways to hold. One is put the dog on a table or counter, anything that is at your waist level. put one arm under the belly and hand over the top on the back. other arm under the neck and hand over the top. then pull the dog into your chest and hold while the other person clips. #2. Lay the dog down on it’s side with you on your knees and put the dogs spine aganist your knees, reaching over the body grab hold of the front leg the is underneath and the back leg that is underneath. Use your elbow to place on the dogs neck with slight pressure to hold him down, use other elbow to hold back side down, The dog cannot flip themselves over when you have hold of those bottom legs. Use rewards and treats when he does well. If you do this offten he will get better. You have to be consisent and not let you anger or fustation come through. I know this is tuff I have two chihuahua’s my self, If you do “quick” them make sure you have ‘quick stop” flour, or corn startch and a wet q tip to stop the bleeding
