Is Pernicious Anemia and B-12 deficiency the same thing or is one the result of the other?

Answer #1

Pernicious Anemia is caused by the lack of vitamin B12.

Answer #2

Is Pernicious Anemia the worst outcome of not getting the B12 deficiency taken care of? I know your not a doc, just thought you might know

Answer #3

Anemia Is caused when a person does not have enough red blood cells In his or her body. So they eat non edible Items like paper, metal, light bulbs, glue plastic. I think It’s call Pica.

Answer #4

Pica is not always a symptom of anemia.

Answer #5

No … the worst outcome would be nerve damage, disorientation, and memory loss. I have a vitamin B12 deficiency so i have to supplement it … I already have problems with memory loss and disorientation, but it’s difficult to tell if it’s my B12 deficiency that’s causing it, or my CFMD.

Answer #6

Yeah its not fun to have, my mother has Pernicious Anemia, she can’t remember jack crap. She doesn’t have nerve damage though that we are aware of but she has had 6 blood transfusions in the past 36 yrs. Can I ask what you do to make it not so bad for you? Everything we have tried hasn’t worked

Answer #7

Well, it’s a matter of how serious it really is … fortunately, mine was caught early enough before it became too serious, so my one-a-day supplement seems to be working for now, although I also take blackstrap molasses once a day, too. I may need to increase that later, but I’m fine right now. it sounds like your mother has a pretty serious case … I can’t imagine that there’s much she can do aside from what she has already tried, but maybe give the molasses a try - it’s quite beneficial in many ways (make sure it’s blackstrap, not fancy)

Answer #8

Ok thanks for the tip and shareing your own regimine, I will see if she will give that a try. I can get it at like GNC or like a health food store?

Answer #9

Yes … health foods stores usually carry it. I order mine online, since there isn’t a health food store here.

Answer #10

Ok and thanks again, I appreciate your help

Answer #11

I’d add that most people who are b12 deficient have trouble absorbing the vitamin rather than not getting enough in their diet. B12 shots are the most dependable way for these folks to get B12. Since people who are b12 deficient usually only absorb a tiny amount of the b12 they consume megadoses sometimes work. Think 1,000-2,000 ug daily. I was a little low on B12 on my blood workout earlier this year. I’ve been taking 1,000 ug daily for a while but I’ll probably get a shot just to be safe.

Answer #12

You could try reading this article in what helps the body to absorb B 12 but also the added diet that benefits the intake of B 12. B12 shots are really the best in severe cases. But the more you know…the more you know…LOL
