Why do people think they're cool if they pretend to be "country" or "redneck"?

y do ppl think there cool pretending to be a “thug” or “gangsta” probly the town they r in and who they hang wit. i just be myself. maybe that is who they r. they think its cool cuz it mite me how there raised. Im country but not red neck.. but i dnt pretent to be country either just how i was raised

i live in the country and people try to hav swag and gangster,i dont but all the teenagers do here

i mean i can tell a real from a fake country person, it just bugs me cuz im more country than anyone at my school i just dont act like it…its just dumb ya know…i dont like fakes

I live in South Carolina & I go to Dreher high school, were lucky b/c Dreher is kinda a melting pot. We have blacks,whites,latinos,aisans,people from Europe & Mexcio…ect. It does seem like everyone HAS to have a lable. Either your with the “black Jocks” “Preppy White kids” “Cool Asians” “The Foring Students” “The Pot Heads( :[ Cr@ck head Randy got busted)” “The Ghetto kids”(>__> trust me not all of them are black either)stuff like that. People down here don’t really call each other rednecks but they will call you country or say you have “Southern Charm”( I get that alot) Everyone has a accent so it’s not a big deal if you sound “redneck” or “country” But they get p!ssed off if you act fake or try to be something your not.:3

i have a graduating class of 23 and a school (elementary, middle school, &high school combined) with 367 student. we still have emos, goths, “gangsters”, and rednecks. (a lot of them are total fakes) but what im trying to say is that everywhere not only schools have fakes and people trying to fit in or be cool.

Not sure, but they are just posers in my mind.

lol i totally hear what ya saying…..i mean, my school has every kind of person you could ever invision but i mean i just want everyone to be themselves…im white, with a semi southern accent i guess? but i wear jordans, american eagle jeans and tees/button ups….its a crazy combo but i love the originality cuz im like a mix of prep, ghetto, skater, all this stuff…and its legitamately who i am

People tend to think their cool when they are comfortable with their style. whatever style it is.

It is just people trying to find a way to fit in. Most people choose the group they want to fit in with and then try to act like them. We all do this to a certain extent. When we can do it so it seems natural we fit in but when it is too forced it seems affected.

Actually, just like you come from the Suburbs and act a certain way, most people who act country or redneck do that because that is what they feel like they can most relate to, coming from where they come from. They may not be doing it just to try and “be cool” as you say,…and may not be pretending,….They may really feel they ARE country or redneck.
