Why do people over use, and misuse the word "like"?

I know it is a way of stalling, but on these TV shows my wife watches, why do they need to stall, they wrote the script, and know what they are going to say.

haha i know man, I’m actually studying TV and Film at college, the reason they do that is to make is seem as realistic as possible, cause realistically people way overuse that word

I think since the word has such a general description that people misuse it because they don’t truly know how to use it properly.

Yes well like it is like way over used, like I don’t think this like happens in my house, in like real life.

Haha well I donno what kinda shows you guys got over in the states but its honestly not too bad here I find.

My wife watches 90210, and I have to leave the room when this is on, or the Bachelor.

Oh, well on 90210 it’s like that because it’s supposed be a show of the younger generation, and the writers probably thought most younger people say like too often and they would like to make it as realistic as possible.

Like, because it’s lie kinda easy to like saying like about 5 times in like every sentence? :-P

Think of it as repetition. So many people use it, and you get wind of it…It’s the plague all over again. :l

I knew of the misuse of this word for a long time, I just thought I would talk about it on here.

It’s a habit for me. My mom and my brother tell me I say it too much, even though I hardly notice I say it. So, like, it’s a habit. :P
