How come old people and middle-aged like oldies?

Does it remind them of their childhood or something? They seem to just stick with the oldies rarely the new songs. Some younger people like those too like me. But why do old people and adults like the oldies so much?

Answer #1

well….its usually like younger people who prefer the music frm the era they were born…. same with older ppl and middle aged people, they grew up in an era with certian music thus liking it and usually sticking to it….i know quite a few oldies and middle aged ppl that are intune with todays music lol…..

I am 22 and i love this kind of music (sorry its in korean) The song is translated to empty glass and this is what kinda old ppl kinda like (forget the language but listen to the melody) lol

Most of us are still in denial about getting old… but we still like to remember our youth. When I hear songs from 1967 to about 1980, I remember all the places I lived, the friends I had, the boyfriends… I remember getting home from school and putting the radio on. I remember sitting there on Sunday night writing down all the top 20 songs of that week, and taping them on a small cassette recorder. I remember saving for an LP and bringing it home, treasuring the cover and anything inside, like song lyrics, then playing it 500 times until my dad would finally say OK THATS ENOUGH… I remember driving around in a car in the summer with a new date listening to songs like the Isley Brothers “Summer Breeze” … So yes, it’s a way to remember the best times. You will do the same in twenty years :)

And the weird thing is, my kids love and know my old music too. I guess it’s the strength of the baby boomer generation. I sure wasn’t interested in my parents’ music when I was young! No WAY was I going to be bothered listening to Doris Day.

While I don’t care for the music from the late 70’s when I came of age (disco) I listen to music from the 60’s to mid 70’s as well as music from the 80’s to today. I don’t keep up with all the current music but I still continue to find new music I like. When I hear someone about my age say something like “System of a Down isn’t really music” they sound exactly like our parents did when they said Black Sabbath wasn’t really music.
