Why do people call the police "pigs"?

i mean that is so freaking bizzare why call them that?

Answer #1

There are always bad cops and good cops. Pigs are those of bad cops. If they call good cops pigs, that is because the callers themselves are pigs.

Answer #2

mostly street gangsters came up with that name. thats like a code name for them like for example 5 o

or maybe they eat to much donuts and have big bellys.

Answer #3

Dunno but that’s a good question

Answer #4

One of the definitions of the word “pig” in my dictionary states:

“… coarse person: somebody who is thought to behave in a coarse, discourteous, or brutal manner …”

[ quoted from Microsoft® Encarta® Premium Suite ]

Apparently the Londen Metropolitan Police are suing Microsoft for copyright theft as the words:

“… behave in a coarse, discourteous, or brutal manner …” . have been extracted from the standard issue Police Constables “List of Duties” in their “Heavy-Handbook”. .

Answer #7

From what I understand it comes from 1960s when the poilce officers were especially brutal and mean to the protesters (Which goes with what Majikthise says about the dictionary term)

Answer #8

The term “pig” has long meant someone despised. No doubt criminals called the police that on occasion for a long time but the term came into common use in the 1960’s. Mainly to refer to police who abused their position and power. At the time the police were used to violently break up peaceful anti-war protests, attack the civil rights movement, prevent desegregation, prevent blacks from voting, etc. At times police brutality was so fierce in the South that the Federal government had to deploy the National Guard to protect blacks from their own police. Across the country there were hundreds of riots sparked by rampant police brutality.

Answer #9

you were in prison?
