Why are some people born with one eye being one color and the other eye being a different color?

Answer #1

Well, it’s a caused by a lack of Melanin, a pigment that you’re supposed to be born with enough of. It’s technically called Heterochromia iridum. This could be inherited, caught as a disease, or a result of an injury.

Answer #2

I have never seen anybody born like that, is that possible? it probably look hella weird lol, i thought that only happen to ppl when they get one of there eyes knocked out, then they get a fake one.

Answer #3

That’s called heterochromia iridium (Irises of different color)

the most basic reason is that their parents have different eye colors. Very common with white cats.

If you follow Gregor Mendel’s (the father of genetics) Punnet Square, one out of four offspring whose parents have different eye colors will have both eye colors for each eye. (recessive, dominant, and mixed) e.g. Dad has green eyes, mom has blue eyes. 1st child will have blue, another two with green, and one will have both. It all depends on the dominant genes.

Another major reason for H. iridium is the imbalance in the concentration of melanin in the irises. This is observed in same-color eyes, but with different shades (one eye is dark brown, the other eye is light brown.)

Hope this helps. =)
