to some people its boring to others its how they want to live but it seems like a lot of people have a hard time decifering (I have no idea if I spelled that right) between media and reality which doesnt help either

people love to be “trendy” and when we are all reading the same magazines and watching the same shows we see all of the same styles and the same personalities…there are a lot of people who dont want to stand out too they just want to blend in and coast by

All these answers are good, and accurate, but they ignore, what I think, to be the essential problem in your question – the idea that “nowadays” is any different than the way things have always been. There have always been trends, fashions, and pop culture, things certain groups gravitate towards and other groups do not. Only the names change.

There were trends and fashions in Elizabethan England, 1920s America, czarist Russia, and there will continue to be so in the future. Hell, pockets on trousers used to be a sweeping fashion statement.

People are less confindent. People are concerned about stuff like ipods and cell phones. No one create anything anymore. Some can, and those people make it. Basically, people will believe stupid crap and are now becoming an amazing society of…sheep.
