Peeing in cage

My female boxer is a little over a year and goes to the bathroom in her cage no accidents in the house only during day when she is in her cage I love her a lot but now it’s gotten to the point where my house smells and I feel that I might have to get rid of her we have tried everything I wonder if there is some kind of pill out there I can give her to make her hold her bowels

What have you tried??

This is a toughie (once the instinct to keep their nests clean is broken, it’s hard to restore)…and…at a year old, she might not be trustworthy to have the run of the house…YET.

You didn’t say how long she’s in her cage during the day…if it’s a long work day, I would think she simply cannot hold it that long.

There are drugs that the Vet can prescribe to help anxiety (if that’s wht the problem is)…the good news is…she’s not THAT far from being mature enough to trust to run loose in the house.

You’ve made it this far, so don’t give up on her…Using those pet cleaners that have enzymes to break down the smell of urine or poop could help limp you thru until she’s a little older and can have more freedom. I get them at a professional cleaning supply…

You might want to check with the Vet, too to make sure she doesn’t have bladder infection…that causes leakage (and the inability to just hold it).

I don’t think that you should give up your dog because of something as little as this, make sure that before you put her in her cage, you let her go outside and make sure that she goes to the toilet, also, if you can, take her on a walk before leaving her in the cage for long periods of time because then after the exercise, her mind will instinctually go into resting mode, all she will want to do is rest.

Hope this helps.

sounds to me like the cage is to big and she is expected to hold her pee to long at that age. I would also with hold water from her when she is locked up./

my dog is 10 weeks old. most female dogs are clean and don’t like messing in their sleeping area. I tend to take away their water at a certain time before bed so she doesnt pee everywhere. try getting rid of the cage or leaving it open and putting some news paper but the door so she goes there. when she goes out in the garden for a wee praise her loads. like GOOD GIRL and pat her or give her a treat. around 1 she should be able to hold it most the night.

hope this helps. im toilet training my 2nd pup and it is hard but hang in there.
