Parents profession influence your career goals?

For many years now, I have heard my mother walk in the front door tired and strressed from the long work day she just completed. After years and years of hearing her complain about how much she hates her job and how much she just wants to find another, I made the decision to never be an accountant. My father on the other hand, loves his job, makes more then enough money, and has the feeling of satisfaction on a daily basis. But, he is head of engineering at a hospital. I knew I didn’t want to be an engineer though, but I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field somewhere. So in a way, my father influenced me on place of work. I now work at an admission specialist at the hospital in my hometown and I love my job. has your parents influenced your career?

Answer #1

Yes, but mostly the country I live in. My dad is an accountant and I also chose to be one. My mother didn’t influence me, she is a stay at home mom. But basically I chose my career with the possibility in mind that I would have to leave here one day.

I grew up going to work in the oilfield with my dad…and it got in my blood, so here I am working in the oilfields of West Texas and I love it!

Answer #3

not really, I mean my dad is 20 odd grand in debt because he’s self employed and they won’t give him the money he;’s worked for for god knows how many years.

my mum has got a criminal record now for threatening to punch a woman (over reaction or what?) because she pissed her off so much… she works as a receptionist and a phlabottomist. she gets so much sh*t off the people that come there it sometimes gets too much.

I want to be a therapist, so I dunno where that came from. im fascinated by emotions, depression and stuff like that, the way the mind works… so yeah, I’d like to help people with mental illnesses. just because of my own reasons. :)

Answer #4

Actually, no.

My father was a miner (and my step-father also, after my dad’s death) - seemed to enjoy his job, but I really didn’t like the idea of going through dark tunnels in the ground.

My mother is a nurse, and alwaysloved her job…I can’t stand the sight of innards, so I made the decision not to do that on my own - not to mention I can’t handle death.

That brings me to where I am now - a chef, and loving it!
