Hopefully you can supply the egg since there are far fewer egg donors than sperm donors.

Intrauterine Insemination or IUI is the prefered term not artificial insemination.

Any gynocologist is qualified to perform IUI though some refuse to do so on unmarried women.

It is safest to select sperm from anonymous donors. Each donor will fill out a profile so you can choose a donor based on their race, skills, education, etc. If you have a friend donate sperm there is always the danger that in the future they will try to exert parental rights as the child’s biological father.

If you are a lesbian than you might consider using a male relative of your partner as a sperm donor though. That way the child will be biologically related to both you and your partner. I know of a few lesbian couples who have gone this route.
