Is Palestine a country or a region?

Palestine is definitely a region. As for being a country, that’s what the Middle East peace process is all about. Israel considers the “Palestinian territories” to be within its own borders. The United Nations considers the West Bank and Gaza Strip to be occupied by Israel, and much of the international community does not regard these territories as legally being part of Israel. In fact, negotiations with Israel have included eventual recognition of these territories as an independent Palestinian state. Still, Israel, as the occupying power, is currently seen as being responsible for the security of these areas and a transfer of power to the Palestinian National Authority to govern its own affairs. So, basically, the legal status of Palestine is not black and white, but lost in the gray of a bunch of treaties and accords that one day hope to make it an independent nation.
