Painting Easter Eggs, does food coloring work?

Does food coloring work for painting Easter eggs, or is there some speical solution needed to paint them?

Answer #1

You can also use natural dyes, like boiling the eggs with a load of onion skins (a beautiful polished orange/brown effect) or turmeric (bright yellow). I had a lot of fun with that this year. Someone on this site gave me a really good link with advice on natural dyes - I can’t find it at the moment because there seems to be a bug in the site, but I’ll try to pass it on to you later.
