What is the painkiller people get addicted to the most?

And what are the signs that someone is addicted to painkillers?

Answer #1

codeine is possibly the most addictive since it is available over the counter, is very strong and also after using for just a short period of time, the bodies pain threshold reduces, meaning that you feel more pain easier, thus needing to take pain killers to bring it back to a state of normality.

Answer #2

does painkillers put people in a good mood or something?

Answer #3

hmmm some, like codeine have a sedation effect and can make you feel tired (similar to stoned) floaty kind of feeling? has to be said though, that codeine has sooo many other side effects.

as i said though, the addiction doesn’t come from this ‘floaty’ feeling, the body becomes very tolerant to this very quickly.. the addicion often comes from the discomfort felt when the person ‘doesn’t’ take it….

it’s a bit like having a headache, normally its bearable, but when you have been taking painkillers for as little as a week, your body controls that pain far less efficiently.. and whereas before you could go without a painkiller, once you start using them, the ‘normal’ headache can be intolerable.

Answer #4

oh my gosh … so if you could describe the feeling that painkiller does in one word what word would you give it?

PS im asking questions because i’m writing a story and the girl is addicted to pain killers but i didnt know how to describe it Lol. sorry

Answer #5

Weed !!

Answer #6

oxycontin

Answer #7

do you know how that drug makes a person feel after they take it?

Answer #8

I do believe that it has different effects onpeople and depends how they take it. some swallow it and some crush it up and snort it. A normal person would take it and be relieved of pain but i do think thaty someone who is addicted it kind of gives them a kick start. It makes them very mean and cruel when they do not have it

Answer #9

ohhhh wow okay!!!

Answer #10

Lortabs!!!!!!

Answer #11

yeah heard alot about codeine..

Answer #12

morphine

but they only give it to people who are almost dead, cancer patients and the like. So you’d have to be a dying patient or a crooked nurse at a cancer station to be able to get addicted to morphine.

Answer #13

That’s crazy … here, they give it to you freely after surgery. That’s how they found out I was allergic to it, lol

Answer #14

oxycontin is highly addicted, but also hard to obtain, it is commonly used for patients with cancer.

Answer #15

honestly…. it’s good to get ideas from people.. but go to your local pharmacist and ask them if they have an old copy of their meds book… in Britain it’s called ‘BNF’ .. used by anyone who administers medication, it will give you doses, side effects, contraindications and everything.. and if it’s for study, you would be much better of getting a variety of literature which argues pros and cons of medications rather than listening to the subjective heresy of a small number of people. if you are using it for study they will want references or at least you origin of your information, and i’m not sure you can put a non accredited medical site as one.

Answer #16

My guess is oxycontin, it’s basically her.oin in a pill form. Morphine is far more addictive, but is less widely used.

Answer #17

Ohhh i didnt think of that, thats a good idea!! I’ll do that

Answer #18

Lmbo

Answer #19

oh wow!!!

Answer #20

??? OK, seems like my countries laws would rather have us suffer than be addicted. Yep, I just did some research and found out that my countries laws are in general much more restrictive about anaesthetics than those of other countries. Weird. A doctor in my country would have to fill a form to get Morphine for a patient and he’d need to keep track of every package. Morphine is usually only given to patients who are under supervision. People can’t take any of it home.
