Pain under my lower left rib

For about 3 years now I have been getting this really annoying but not unbearable its not my eating habits or drinking habits because I am really good with the foods that I eat and I barely ever drink but I do want help on what this might be

Definitely isn’t constipation or appendicitis

I don’t think it is IBS. I have had this same pain for almost 5 years. I have switched my diet many times, monitored bowel movements, cut out alcohol and dairy… none of it seems to make any difference. It is always worse when I sit or lay down.

I have had CAT scans, MRI’s, x-rays, blood tests, colonoscopy, ultrasound… everything and still no answers. It is becoming an almost constant pain in my life. I have had to switch doctors several times as they either don’t seem to care to find the answer or insinuate that it is in my head. It is not and it is getting worse. I’m only 25, I eat well, hardly drink, don’t smoke, and swim and do pilates 4 days a week. I’m not a whimp or a whiner but not having an answer is incredibly frustrating!!! I am desparate for answers so if you find any, let me know!

Answer #4

I have pain under my left rib and sometimes it feels like it’s the actual rib that hurts. I eat healthfully, don’t drink, don’t smoke, work out a lot, but this pain is scaring me! Sometimes I feel that it at night and get so scared that I can’t get back to sleep. Although I am not afraind of many things, I am afreaid of going to the doctor because I’m worried they’ll tell me it’s something very bad.

Answer #5

Sorry, I dont understand how you say it is not IBS? You can have this whether you go regulary or not.

The pain for IBS is generally exactly where you describe it, under the left rib.

It could also be an enlarged spleen. Do you suffer from jaundice? Have you noticed that you have a yellow complection or the whits of your eyes having a yellow tinge?

Answer #6

It sounds very much like IBS. (Irritable bowel syndrome) Is it a deep throbing sort of ache?

I had this and I was really worried that it was something serious. Ihave not had it for over 15 years now though. It can go away as quickly as it starts.

It is quite common and can often be controlled by medication and diet.

You may like to try cutting out all wheat products from your diet at this is one of the main causes of this.

You need to be checked out with a doc though just to be sure.
