I know what this is!! For years I’ve experienced random pain in my bellybutton/bladder, that starts off feeling as if I’ve pulled a muscle. The pain then progresses over a few hours and I cannot stand upright or urinate with out a lot of pain. I only experience this once or twice throughout the year and by the time I get to a doctor, the pain has gone. I finally found a doctor who expained what was happening. When in the womb there is a canal connecting the bladder of the fetus to the umbilical cord. This tube is called a ‘urachus’. This cord is destroyed as we grow as there is no longer any use for it. My doctor sent me for an ultrasound, thinking I may have a cyst causing a tightening of my urachus. By the time I got the ultrasound, the pain had gone and no abnormalalities were found. I’m certain this is the cause of the pain as cysts can form and burst after a day or so. However, since I haven’t actually found a cyst on my urachus, I can’t say for sure that this is the exact cause. However, Im certain that the pain is related to the urachus as it explains the pain I’ve been experiencing exactly. I also feel a strange sensation in my vagina/bladder if I put my finger into my belly button and move it around. Hope this helps!!

I’ve had this for some time now; I have it right now and it hurts to stand up straight and go to the bathroom (I’m holding in my pee right now). I really want to know why this happens! But no one seems to know =’( I’m tired of getting this. It happens at any time and I have to walk bending over and it looks weird.

Answer #3

I have the exact same problem as many of you, Im a 17 year old male, and I believe this started around that age of 14. I also feel as if a tube of some sort is connected to my penis. I feel a very sharp pain when I pee or stretch either in my penis or below my belly button, but it’s like a line of pain. The weird thing is I usually get it every year for about a day or two. I’ve never went to the doctor but from all these posts it seems it might not help.

Answer #4

I’ve had this happen to me ever since I was very young and I feel for all of you who have had doctors look at you like you’ve lost it. I’m so relieved that I’m not the only one. I have the pain right now and this is the first time in years (when I started getting the pain at probably 10 or so, there was no internet) so I googled it. I’ve always told people it feels like a needle and thread are being peirced through my naval and pulled through my stomach and out my urinary tract.

Answer #5

Sounds like some sort of infection - possibly bladder. Go get checked by the doctor because you probley need some antibiotics.

Answer #6

lol,I don’t know,but I had the same thing

Answer #7

I’ve had the exact same problem for my whole life. I’m a 27 year old female, and ever since I was little, every once in a while I’ll have that pain. It’s almost like a tearing sensation when I urinate. Or if I stand up straight all of a sudden. I went to a doctor about it once and she had to go get a medical book and look up possible answers. She said it might have something to do with the umbilical cord, and that it’s nothing to worry about.

I’m a 19 year old female and it happens to me too. It happened today and I went to lay down and I screamed out in pain.

Answer #11

ok I’ve had this probably twenty times in my life. when I stand up or stretch sometimes it feels like someone is pouring pain into my belly button and im peeing it out even if im not going to the bathroom. it might be from sitting for an extended period of time, but it only happens occasionally. mumtothree, it sounds like maybe your son has an incarcerated hernia in his belly button. I’ve been reading about this for about half an hour, and pain is a symptom of that as well as a piece of tissue or something bulging out inside the navel. im not a girl so its not a cyst on my ovary. and it may be just from gas. and it doesnt always happen when I’ve been sitting. sometimes I can be standing and all of a sudden, BAM and I have to stand in the same position for sometimes 20 minutes or so otherwise I have excruciating pain in my belly button. ok il gonna try looking more and waiting for this to stop!

Answer #12

Same exact thing has been happening to me since I was 8 years old. Chronic and horrible I hate this pain in my bellybutton. I have been checked for urachal cyst and instertitial cystitis, and I have neither. I think it may have to do something with my gastrointestinal tract. All those nerves are interconnected. I have a small cyst on my ovary that has been there for years. Many of you have had CTs…but try getting an ultrasound. Did anyone else get an ultrasound and have a small cyst?

Answer #13

OMG that is exactly what has been happening to me since I was around 11 years old (I’m 19 now) and it happened more when I was younger but it’s just coming back again. I had colonoscopies, CT’s and everything. They ended up telling me it was all in my head because I have anxiety and I worried about it. But the pain was so bizarre and painful I never could believe that. It is like a tight pulling, sharp pain right at my belly button area when EVER I stand up straight and urinate. It was so bad I would just sit in a fetal position all day when I was younger and not drink water so I wouldn’t have to pee.

If ANYONE has had this and has been actually diagnosed with something besides mental problems please let me know! Thanks!

Answer #14

Well I’m 15 now I had the pain when I was younger its like someone I pulling a string in my bellybuttin when I go pee the pain increases then it goes back down it increses more when I sit up straight even when I cough but this pain comes and goes I went to children hospital and I took all types of tests missed 2 days of school but they said nothing is wrong with me I wish somebody could figure this thing out

I am 36 and have had that from time to time and I have it again now. I also had it when I was pregnant with my son. I have never been to a doctor about it but my symptoms are what everyone else has posted but it does not bother me when I use the bathroom.

Answer #16

I have also had that pain. Sharp stabbing or tearing pain that is really quick in the lower center right about an inch under the belly button.

gas I assume. 27 years old. I have had CT, and Colonoscopy, and all is well.

My son who is 5 claims that even touching his belly button hurts. He says that the his belly button is connected to all his “pipes” that goes to his “pee-pee” and that’s why it hurts when touched. I am lost as to why he has that pain. There is no redness in the belly button. His explanation makes me suspect that the pain radiates from his belly button all the way to his penis. This boy has a capacity to endure a lot of pain and so I am not taking it lightly. My pediatrician says that may be it’s a “muscle pull” or he has weird sensations in his belly button. This hurts only if the belly button is touched inside. Reading the post by “fizzypop”, I suspect it is something to do with the umbilical cord. My son’s umbilical cord was pulled hard when the pediatric nurse took a really long q-tip and cleaned it vigrously around the cord when he was 5 day old. The cord started to bleed and the doctor cauterized it with some thing (Silver nitrate? ) - that was very cold and made the whole area black. He needed to be cauterized twice because the cord did not heal even when he was 3 months old. Even now he has a small lump (that looks like a nerve) visible inside his belly button. What do I do? I don’t want him to go through this pain.

Answer #19

Look up “patent urachus.” Some kids are born able to pee through their bellybutton and need to have it fixed.

Answer #20

I have this right now. It,s been happening since I was 16 (I’m 41 now) and my Doctor treats me like I am making it up.It is like a string is joined to my bellybutton and it pulls when I stand up straight and sometimes when I pee or cough.I tend to get cystitis more often than I should. It lasts for a day or two then goes away for several months. The pain is quite intense when it pulls.I’ve never been able to get a proper diagnosis but after doing my own research on the internet, I think it has something to do with the umbilical cord.Look up patent urachus, urachal sinus and urachal cyst.

Answer #21

I have had this problem for years! I went to the doctor and was told that it is caused from my bladder shrinking to fast. There is a tendon that runs from your belly button to your bladder. When your bladder is full the tendeon is lose and shrinks, when you pee, your bladder shrinks and tightens the tendon. Sometimes the tendon doesn’t have time to stretch and when you stand or straighten out, it pulls on the tendon.

Answer #22

Hi i unfortunatly have suffered from this since early teens I am now 46!! I have had every test known to man for it and also had a hernia umbilical repair with no apperant difference. The pain is exactly as you and others have described it and it has caused much anxiety in my life . The only thing that i believe has helped me to lessen the intensity and occurence is a muscle relaxant called baclofen. ( a common anti spasm medication. If you know of anything more please please pass on the information and we can all benefit
