Out of state tuition, advise please!

Hello there, I’m currently a florida resident about to move to boulder, colorado. I’m really interested in trying to start my college education asap. I understand that to become a colorado resident I need to be living there at least 6 months to prove it. I think that out of state tuition is applied to people who have been in colorado for less than a year. So I have a few questions: should I wait that whole year to begin college so I don’t get out of state tuition? I’m 18 and I don’t depend on my parents, I will bring my mother to co with me to take care of her and work at the same time. She can’t do much work physically because of aplastic anemia, but in all other aspects she’s brilliant. And could work from home. I looked up the emancipation petition but I believe I do not qualify. If there is any other way of speeding up this process, I’d really be grateful!!

I just came from colorado as a matter of fact so let me see if this helps. maybe you should try working and put off schooling for the 6 months you need to become a state resident, that way you can apply for te various grants (notice how I left off loans) that colorado offers strictly to single women. have you applied for your FAFSA? stupid question if you did. there are many different programs and grants that you can apply for and you probably will get approval from them if you apply early enough. I’m sorry that this isn’t more explanative but do you know what school you are going to goto? maybe you should talk with the fiancial aide department over the phone or through emails to let you know what state offered programs colorado has to offer to you. I dont know what else to say then that. I hope that this helps you or maybe someone will have some more advice to offer you that you can go on instead of mine.

The simplest thing to do would be to go to community college at first. That way you can still get going on your education at a fraction of the cost of out of state tuition at a state school. Just make sure you take courses that will transfer to the scholl you’re ultimtely interested in.
