What are your opinions on the phrase "Baby-Daddy"?

Baby Daddy, As Defined by Urban Dictionary: The father of a woman’s child, used to denote that the father is neither the mother’s husband or boyfriend, but just the sperm donor.

I personally think the term “Baby Daddy” implies more that you had sex with some one, got knocked up, and the guy is simply your child’s sperm donor as opposed to an actual father…

Eh. It irritates me, personally, because… Well. I don’t actually know. It just kind of gets under my skin. I think it sounds trashy and I dont understand why women use this term. Some women even use it when they are with the father of the child. What do you think? Is it ok? Do you think it’s trashy?

Answer #1

Its just a funny “URBAN” way of saying it,if dont like it dont say it…period, its just a kind of joking way of saying it thats all you puttin to much to it girly! I dont like “dude” and “awesome” but that doesnt get under my skin, its just I think its corny as hell! I wouldn’t say those things but I dont care if someone else does, but I do say baby daddy, and heres a little “urban education” sweety…it doesnt just mean sperm donor, I even say it about my husband, its a “us”thang you wouldn’t understand, mabye you wouldnt even try to from what I read, what about it gets under your skin?

Answer #2

No need to be rude. All I did was ask opinions on the phrase and gave my own opinion. To me - it does sound trashy. No person with class or sophistication would say “My Baby Daddy” I am not married yet, I have a child, I would never in my right mind call my fiance’s my son’s “Baby Daddy”.

Answer #5

Kinda trashy, yeah, but it depends on the individual. For example, I’ve known girls who have gotten regnant to guys who they weren’t involved with, and some call them their child’s father, and some call them by their first name. But if all parties involved are okay with the term, then it’s no problem.

Answer #6

I agree, I sometimes refer to my nephews father as that simply because he was only a sperm donor, he left my sister after she had the baby but in other words, yeah its a trashy word

Answer #7

its trashy yeah if the father is a deadbeat dad nothing but a smerm donor but my fiance has 3 girls and I call him my baby daddy and I’m his baby momma. but I aslo c what your sayin and know where your coming from my sister and law has 2 boys from one guy and a girl from another and they don’t even deserve to be called a babydaddy . but I think most people in prairieville where I’m at use the term baby daddy.. Answer #10

Certainly not a flattering term generally.

Answer #11

yeah, I was not being rude. I was just saying that the term is a trend and used in a loose way and that it doesn’t bother me. I did not say I used those terms. And who are you to pass such a harsh judgement on people who use term?

Answer #12

Well I think its kinda trashy to, I think if u don’t have a good enuff relationship wit ur child(ren)s father to call him by his name then maybe u shudnt have had children wit him, its been my experiance that if that phrase is used by a the mother of the chil(ren) that she usually has a lot of hostility, so in all I think a lot of women need to pick better men to have a child with, it seems as though most women these days will just settle for anyone, well that’s my opinion, hope I didn’t offend anyone
