In your opinion, what are the components of a spectacular teacher?

What traits or actions do you find compose a good and likeable instructor? I personally have always like teachers that speak to their students as equals. Of course, they have to be enthusiastic about teaching the subject that they are teaching and know the difference between pressuring students to perform better and encouraging students to perform better. I also appreciate teachers that know their subject well and can make it easy to understand.

Just wondering what you guys like to see in your instructors!

Tough but fair comes to mind. Tough because they want you to learn (this means they care) and fair because they are human and understand the possible struggles the student may have.

Military instructors where the best I ever had…………they “made sure” you learned, no excuses, yet if someone was struggling with something, they recognized it, became human, and helped in any way they could. They didn’t “baby” anyone, but knew how to communicate and motivate a person to reach a goal.

No matter how mean and nasty they seemed at the time……………in the end you wanted to thank them.
