How can I make my girlfriend feel less responsible?

OK…so. I love my girlfriend with all my heart and am in no hurry to breakup with her. However. shes having problems within her family that are causing problems in “OUR” family. She really sad. She loves my family and wants her family to be more like mine. She mentioned it to her mom who got overly upset. I feel like her mom is begining to resent me in the manner she holds. Even going as far as to make her bring home the movie ticket stubs to prove where we’ve been. I should mention that we are both 18, almost 19, years old and still live at home. The basic question is…HOW CAN I MAE MY GIRLFRIEND FEEL LESS RESPONCEABLE? If this makes any sense?

Thanks cutiepie. It does help. I know her mom doesn’t “hate” me but it sure feels like she does. The only reason she hasn’t moved out is due to money. We both make very little of it in difficult jobs. Shes even had to quit school because of it. We already planned on getting married no matter what. Her mom has a problem with that too. She thinks that I might die, im a firefighter, in some random fashion and her daughter wont be able to support herself. I understand why she feels that way but why does she has to put that on her daughter. No mother should want her child to leave the man she loves becuase of a silly fear like that. I would get it if I was a gangster or a druggie but im not. I’m firefighter for cryin out loud and a Chaplain in top of it. The last time a firefighter died the way she claims could happen to me was 15 years ago. I’ll PM the way she says it will happen if you want to know.

A lot of moms are like this, it’s nobody’s fault. My mother was like this, and so were the mothers of all of my friends. I sat my mother down and explained to her that I really cared about my boyfriend and that we were getting married no matter what she said. And it stopped. Her mother doesn’t hate you in particular, she’ll hate anyone who she thinks is “taking her little girl away” She’ll eventually get over it. And your girlfriend may look into moving out, maybe you guys could move in together. Hope this helped. Good luck and be safe.
