Why are all the official prayers in Islam in Arabic?

It seems to me that somehow, people got confused and believe that Allah can only understand one language. As they want you to also read the Quran in Arabic, too, if you are a “good muslim”…at one time, the Islamic faith embraced science, math and scholarly pursuits…now, it seems the only version of it that is considered acceptable is backwards and ignorant. Is this what the Muslim faith really means? They burned down a church in Malaysia recently, too…I’ve yet to read any serious denouncing of the event by well known Imams.

I have a friend who read an english translation of the Quaran and he was told by another friend of ours who is Muslic that it didnt count unless it was in Arabic… Im not sure why. Maybe its like how everything in the Catholic church had to be in Latin for ages even though no one knew what it meant

Answer #2

It might have something to do with keeping the verse/prayer as pure as it can be. Translating anything creates distortion. Even the bible has been translated so many time that there are bound the be differences with the original scrolls. Keeping it in the original language eliminates that. I don’t know if there are deeply religious rules for prayers, but I’m sure that any god speaks all languages. What else would a divine creature do all day ;)

Answer #3

I checked around and I’ve found that if Arabic is not your native tongue you should learn the meanings in your language while trying to practice the Arabic so it is important, maybe it’s some way to feel connected to their roots. I think it’s kind of nice, if I could say all my prayers in Gaelic I think I would.

Answer #4

thats the language they were first written in

Answer #5

cuz god present this religion for arabic people and he order them to spread it to the rest of the world , and your question about official prayers i would answer you just like the above answer , to prevent distortion in translating and lastly only extremists do such things ,, they are called ——- the word is not allowed

Answer #6

Really it’s meant to avoid translation errors. The bible has been mistranslated many times before, and I guess they want to avoid that. It’s to keep the purity of what is really being said. Some things cannot be translated directly into other languages, and to avoid people fighting over what the real meaning is. You’ve asked several other questions, and I’m afraid I’m a little lost. Are you asking why science and progress havent been allowed in many muslim countries? Perhaps because it is easier for those in power to keep power that way. Countries with a lot of freedoms (science, education, etc) dont allow dictators or monarchs to keep power. It’s all about power and money. Religion is simply the excuse. Oh, and the sect my parents belong is big on education, especially for women. The leader has been on a huge education kick for the past several decades. http://funadvice.com/r/bjtga0t7a I cant answer for anyone else.

There are intonations and sounds which express more eloquently the meaning of both the Quran (Koran, Ghoran) and Sura and Hadith. In Iran as in the Muslim (Moslem) tradition these are recited as if by a song with and quoted just like we might Shakespeare or Chaucer in original dialect so as not to lose the nuances or flavor. Besmilla eh Raman eh Rahim. I was forced to pray as a child in this fashion. The prayer is said many times daily when the call is made from the zigerats . Allah o Akbar. It is not accepted to even use the language other than that of the prophet Mohammad (Muhamad) ~ IMHO

Answer #8

It DOES count in knowing what your religion says! But if you want to read for someone, who is ill and pray after reading it,it has to be read in Arabic and you can read the translation underneath.

Answer #9

i agree with that. it can be counted and i prefer it in English and Arabic.
