Obama: I have repeatedly said that I think it’s entirely appropriate for states to restrict or even prohibit late-term abortions as long as there is a strict, well-defined exception for the health of the mother. Now, I don’t think that “mental distress” qualifies as the health of the mother. I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term. Otherwise, as long as there is such a medical exception in place, I think we can prohibit late-term abortions.

Strang: You’ve said you’re personally against abortion and would like to see a reduction in the number of abortions under your administration. So, as president, how would do you propose accomplishing that?

Obama: I think we know that abortions rise when unwanted pregnancies rise. So, if we are continuing what has been a promising trend in the reduction of teen pregnancies, through education and abstinence education giving good information to teenagers. That is important—emphasizing the sacredness of sexual behavior to our children. I think that’s something that we can encourage. I think encouraging adoptions in a significant way. I think the proper role of government. So there are ways that we can make a difference, and those are going to be things I focus on when I am president.

Get over yourself. Abortion is not the only issue that concerns the catholic church. Would you have been upset if Bush had been asked to speak at notre dame? Bush has done and supported many more things that are opposed by the church that Obama has. Obama did not start an unnecessary war that killed hundreds of thousands of people (the pope actually chastized him over this). Obama was not governor of a state that broke records for numbers of executions (131 people killed by texas while bush was governor, included a mentally retarded man). Obama did not order prisoners to be tortured. Obama does not support tax cuts for the wealthy, while cutting services for the poor. Obama does not support denying heatlh benefits for needy children.

well technically…its not a catholic university. it just affiliates itself with the catholic church. so yeah I guess. I just have a problem with the fact they have to cover the crucifixes

Anyone can have a late term abortion, all you have to do is tell the doctor you are stressed out and the baby will cause a serious risk to your health if he was born alive.

So they wait till all but the head is out, jam sissors in the back of the neck and suck out the brians. As though the body was harmless coming out of the mother but the head is lethal.

Obama’s pro choice goes far beyond that of a normal liberal. Has even gone so far as to allow abortions to procede after the baby has been fully delivered. That right there is a baby, breathing and crying outside of the mothers body, and murdered. But no we choice to call that abortion too.

most people dont mind the president coming. what they DO mind is the fact that because of it they are taking down all of the crucifixes or covering them up and the preparations that the are making because obama said he would come to speak, that they probably didnt even do for the eisenhower. Also it does sorta bother me that he is pro-choice and is coming to speak…I mean I know that some people are pro-choice come and speak at other places, but the extent of the abortion he allows bothers me. Abortion in the third trimester is SOOO cruel and wrong. ugh its just gross. how can anyone support that…or the “choice of that”?

With the Catholic Churches stance on Abortion I do agree with all the others,,he should NEVER have been invited PERIOD!,,He has proved he agrees and condones abortion and he has no business period speaking at a Church that is so AGAINIST it!,,the invitation should be revoked and if not,,I support the Seniors that are Graduating for NOT showing up ,,I woudln’t either,,!,,it’s HYPOCRICY ,,ABSOLUTE HYPOCRISY!

after I did some more research I found out that most catholics are fine with him coming…but are really bothered by the fact he is receiving an HONORARY DEGREE. the reason this upsets them is because the catholic church says that we shouldnt give honorary degrees to people who are so against our beliefs. which is true of obama on the issue of abortion.

so that means he is anti-abortion with the exception of RARE cases. meaning they didnt CHOOSE to have sex and get pregnant. if you are so pro-CHOICE stop that. or they didnt CHOOSE to have a high-risk pregnancy. choose to prevent that.

what is wrong with banning late-term abortions, even if the mother’s life is at risk? and also that is not the reason that most people have 3rd term abortions

the ban would not allow late-term abortion for any reason, even if the mother’s life was at risk…

and John McCain is for allowing abortion in the case of rape or risk of the mother’s life…

Yet it is okay for the Pope to reinstate a Bishop who denies the Jewish Holocaust… 6 million jews died and Bishop Richard Williamson denies it happened. Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi called Williamson’s Holocaust remarks “absolutely indefensible.”

Obama is pro-choice and he should be denied an “honorary” degree.

For one: He does not support abortion. No one is pro-abrotion, they are pro-choice. Just because a person is pro-choice does not mean that they are glad that people have abortions, they just feel a person has the right to choose.

As for this situation - I think people need to chill. He’s the president of the US now, and I think they should be proud that he wants to speak at their graduation.

Notre Dame is a recipient of government funding…
