nursery rhyme meaning?

what is the meaning behind the song that goes

rock a bye baby on the tree top when the wind blows the craddle will rock when the bough breaks the craddle will fall down will come baby craddle and all

its a kids nursery rhyme but its just so wierd to me but maybe im just not understanding it correctly

I don’t know, but maybe its a legend or something people did back in medieaval times. I think the first line means people would put a childs cradle on a tree branch thats secure(royalty on the top of the tree) and the second line means they would put them up there when the wind was blowing to rock them to sleep. I also think them third verse means that they would make the branches break and the parents had to catch the child, cradle and all O.O just my opinion
