What are some really nice effects I can use on GIMP?

I’ve recently gotten into changing photos, nothing really complicated, just for fun. I only use GIMP. I was just wondering if anyone knew some cool effects I could do.

So far I’ve only done selective colouring. :] Thank you.

I like Artistic>cartoon or Artistic>Softglow. Colorize is also nice. I also use dodge/burn and the smudge tool, although those aren’t exactly “effects”.

Just play around with it, and see what each effect does/looks like. Find out which ones you like, and make your photos look cool. That’s what I did. Also, I generally use multiple effects on one photo, as each effect has a purpose.

No problem. I generally use the smudge tool to remove any blemishes or to smear color to make it look better. For example: In the photo, if the person has eyeliner on…but it’s hard to see, and it doesn’t appear to be lined all the way across the eye…you can smear it across. Also, if eyebrows are not shaped or there are stray hairs…use the smudge tool to shape the brow or remove any stray hairs. If you do it properly…it will look natural, and you will not be able to tell you used the smudge tool. It takes practice.
