my puppies eyes

I have a litter of 8 PitBull puppies that are 8 days old and the mother is not making enought milk so I bottle feed them once or twice a day depending on how much she makes…today when I was feeding one I was holding on to her face gently trying to get her to latch onto the bottle and some puss started coming out of her eye… and I remembered she cried a lot last night… is that normal when they start opening their eyes… or should I be worried…

Answer #1

If you think it’s pus, then take these pups to a vet!

The best you’ll get out that, is relief in finding out that it’s not…you don’t want to end up with a bunch of blind pups, when all that was in need was some antibiotic ointment…

It is not normal at all! The puppy most likely developed an Eye Infection, and it needs to be checked and treated by a vet immediately, in order to prevent any damage to the eye, or possible future blindness! When the puppies eyes open, they should look perfectly clear and normal!

Answer #3

Well I truly never have seen a baby dog opening their eyes or getting ready to, but maybe it could be infected,or since it just now opening the reaction to that. My suggestion is that if it keeps getting worse to take it to a vet or someone who has had experience with new born puppies!!

Answer #4

See the vet asap. As far as eyes go it is not worth risking sight. It is not normal for the eyes to pus or crust when opening.

Good Luck!!
