Should I be worried if my puppy's nose is running?

Hi my puppie’s nose as of today just started ruining like when people get colds do puppies get colds if so is that bad normal what should I do for my puppie

Answer #1

It depends on a few things, is the puppy up to date with vaccines? if he doesn’t have vaccines, it could be a number of things. If the snot is clear, I wouldn’t worry. If it’s green, yellow, thick or caked onto his nose, take him to a vet immediately.

Answer #2

Its completely normal…a wet nose on a dog indicates that they are in good condition nothing to worry about. But if your puppy has allergies then that could cause your puppy to have a runny nose! With the weather changing like crazy and sometimes it’s rains and some times it’s sunny! I don’t think it’s anything to worry about!

Answer #3

Did you get your puppy it’s shots?? Is the liquid running from his nose clear, or yellow/green stuff? Clear is ok, yellowish or greenish is a sign of infection…and a vet will be needed.

When a dog has an allergy, it usually manifests itself by the dog biting and licking it’s feet, or going after their ears and eyes with their paws…You pup doesn’t sound allergic to me…

What to do, depends entirely on what color the stuff coming from his nose is.

Answer #4

If it is a greeen/ yellow discharge and he is coughing up foamy white discharge and his eyes appear to be pink then its kennel cough and needs to be taken to the vet to get an antibiotic. If the dog does have this then stay away from other healthy dogs because kennel cough is very contagious and at times can be fatal.

Answer #5

What you should do will depend on what color the liquid is running from the puppy’s nose. If it is clear then it is nothing to worry about. If it is yellow or green then your pup has an infection and need to be seen by the vet.

Dogs generally have wet noses and it means they are healthy. So, there is nothing to worry about unless it is an off color.

Dogs with allergies will generally do one of the following things:

  • bite or scratch at themselves near their tails or their paws
  • sneeze repeatedly
  • snore more than usual
  • vomit
  • diarrhea
  • constant licking
