My Dad

Okay, I don’t know how to say this but I hurt my dad’s heart. I think that I just shattered it. I don’t want to ruin my relationship with him. He has this girlfriend that he always put first. I mean he said that he didn’t have enough money to pay for my braces but he just bought a boat, giving my brother and I money for school, paying for braces, and he bought jumbo king crab legs that are like $100! I mean I’m getting confused. He has’t apologized to me but I know that he will. Yet he keeps breaking his promises, spending time with his girlfriend instead of me, and makes my brother and I do chores. Plus, I cook dinner every night now because he “keeps sleeping.” I want to talk to my dad but I can’t, I need a gift so things don’t get out of hand. What is a present that he will like and it is home-made? Please help it is an emergency, I don’t have a lot of time either.

You and your brother are his gift, it’s unfortunate that he is having difficulty seeing that. My mother acted the same way when my brother and I were kids, then she left us for adoption to be with the man. This isn’t your fault, and you may have to come to terms that this is who your dad is. Maybe one day he’ll realize what he’s done wrong, but most likely it will be short lived and you’ll both be second to something or someone else. What is important that you look after and support your brother. You should also look into seeing a school counselor who can help guide you through difficult times. This isn’t going to be easy.
