moving to Florid

My husband and I currently live in Kansas and we are strongly considereing moving to Miami. I was wondering if anyone could give me any information as far as how much apartments cost and anything like that. Also, I am HUGELY terrified of hurricanes. Does Miami get them a lot. Any information would be great! Thanks!

I lived in Miami for about five years.

  • It’s really diverse in cultures. If you don’t know any Spanish, you might feel lost in some neighborhoods. Especially surrounding the city in suburbs like Coral Gables, Doral, Miami Springs, the Cuban population is very high. This can be bad if you don’t know any Spanish.

  • The standard of living is very, very high. Rent is extremely expensive. I paid $1100 for a 1-bedroom apartment before I moved out of the city. That’s about normal. If you want a house, expect to pay $1600+ in rent per month. However, there are a lot of foreclosures, so that could be good if you’re looking to purchase a home.

  • The weather is pretty awful unless you love humidity and heat. It’s usually about 80+degrees and 90% humidity or more. Many people say stepping outside feels like a sauna. And yes, Miami gets a LOT of hurricanes. At least 1 tropical storm per season and sometimes 1 full blown hurricane. They aren’t too bad though if you have all the supplies you need and some shelter.

Hope that helps.
