Can you move out into an apartment before you're 19 in Canada, BC?

I was wondering if I could move into an apartment with my boyfriend at the age of like 16 or 17, is it legal or no? Could it be possible? Thanks to anyone who has a good answer! :)

Answer #1

I am pretty sure that when you are 16 and older you can move out whenever you want as long as you can support yourself.

Support ( Food, Water, Shelter, Clothing, Basic Living )

You must be 19. The age of majority in BC, Canada is 19, if you are under that age, you are considered a minor child. Here’s the link to the government site. http://funadvice.com/r/15ansbj71u3

There has to be a 19 year old on the lease. I had a friend get his older sister to sign his lease for him. They really didn’t care after they had a signature who was living there. And my boyfriend (who was 17 at the time) Moved in with his brother (who was 19), they’re both on the lease but everything is in the 19 year old’s name. I think its just so they can legally sue someone for their money if they need to. :P
