Mother found murdered in hanover park home

FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS A man was charged with first-degree murder Thursday in the death of his pregnant girlfriend, who was found beaten inside her northwest suburban home.

Norma Favela, 31, of the 1700 block of Linden Avenue in Hanover Park, was found with signs of “trauma” in her home and pronounced dead on the scene, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

Police received a 911 call from the home at 12:30 a.m., Hanover Park police Deputy Chief David Webb said.

Favela, who was seven months pregnant, was found dead in the home, and had suffered a “severe beating,” Hanover Park Mayor Rodney Craig said.

Favela’s boyfriend was taken into custody almost immediately after she was found.

Rafael Alvarado, 32, of the Linden Avenue address, was charged Thursday night with one count of first-degree murder and one count of intentional homicide of an unborn child, according to a release from Hanover Park police.

Craig said two other children were inside the home at the time of the incident.

“Based on the 911 call, we called the Major Case Assistance team [MCAT],” Webb said.

Webb said the public was not in danger and he would not comment on whether the person who called 911 was the person who died.

Alvarado is scheduled to appear in bond court Friday morning.

An autopsy for Favela is scheduled for Friday.
