What should we do with the money my hubby's dying grandfather gave us?

My hubby’s grandfather is on his deathbed, and when we went to say goodbye to him yesterday, he gave us an envelope packed with quite a substantial amount of money.

We don’t feel right using it for paying bills or any “common” debt … we want to use it in a way that will be in respect to his memory. Problem is, we can’t figure out what that is.

What would you do with it?

Answer #1

How about a community garden or a little parkette in memoriam?

Or a scholarship in his name to a university that he may have been affiliated with, or attended?

Or if it’s a smaller amount of money, a tree planted in his honour, that could also become a beautiful part of your own home landscaping?

Answer #2

Those are some great ideas - thanks.

Answer #3

name a star after him

Answer #4

put it in the bank

Answer #5

Those are great ideas. Would you maybe feel better if you can still talk to him about it and ask his wishes? Sorry for your impending loss.

Answer #6

Do you have or plan to have kids? Starting a college fund might be a way to honor his memory.

Answer #7

mine wasn’t really thoughtfull but it’s a simple thing to do sorry

Answer #8

I would put some of it in a savings account for your kids, wether it be for college, for a car or for when they get married to help them start off in the world, esp since times are tough now.

Answer #9

put it in the bank and save it or if you have kids use it to save up for college or spend it.
