Mixed all over the place

Here’s the deal:

I’ve been seeing this guy, and by seeing I mean a very casual relationship where we are basically friends with benefits. We like eachother, we get along, we laugh, we have a good physical relationship. However, I keep getting these messages that he wants to end whatever we have going on… But then he turns around and starts calling me again… For instance last night we were supposed to hang out after 10. So around 10 30 I call him and he says he’ll be by “in a little.” next thing I know its midnihgt and he still hasn’t shown up… Naturally I’m a little irritated that I’m waiting around like a fool, so I texted him just asking if he decided not to come. Then he starts insisting that he is still coming, and I’m okay with him not coming I don’t care I just dont want to be waiting around. But he’s insistent…then around 1 am, I just tell him not to bother. Then he calls me saying he’s on my street and he’ll be there. Once he comes, he starts falling asleep… Which I really just don’t understand. His friend tells me how he was really insistent on coming even though he was falling asleep at his place too.

I just don’t understand, why does he bother to even come and insist upon it when it doesn’t seem like he wants to be hanging out with me…
