I think that it is a matter of luck, and being in the right place at the right time. So make the odds better to be at the right place at the right time. Get to know other people who are fans as well. And put it out there that you are interested in going to the concert and hope to go back stage. On the day of the concert, try to upgrade your ticket to a seat closer to the stage. A certain amount of tickets are reserved for media (newspaper reporters and such). Not all of them show up, so, you might be able to swap a regular ticket for a front row seat at the last minute. I have a friend who actually pulled this off at a Rolling Stones concert. Good Luck.
