How is the best method for purchasing items from Japan?

Namely a guitar valued at around 95,300 Yen, or approx $1050 U.S? What I am really asking, is, in Japan, there seems to be this HUGE internet store that basically links thousands of stores and works as a major purchase point for both Japanese and foreign customers. Or for me, in the U.S.A. The internet store is http://funadvice.com/r/3k4r9v9o75 ( www rakuten com ) or http://funadvice.com/r/3k4r9vagf8 ( www rakuten jp ) . I’m not trying to advertise the site, but I would like advice from anyone who may have dealt with this internet store, or anyone who imports Japanese items, if this is a good method to import items. There is a Les Paul Studio Japan Limited Edition ( made in USA, but sold ONLY in Japan ) that I want to purchase, and import in. $1050-ish + $125-ish + customs fees???? I figure a credit card purchase would be safe, I just want to know how reliable this internet conglomerate is. Anyone with advice, I appreciate. :)
