Can menstrual blood attract sharks when you swim in the sea while on your period?

Is it possible, since sharks can smell a single drop of blood a mile away? And is safe to go swimming/ snorkling/ scuba diving while on your period?

Answer #1

I would’nt try it… : / It is blood after all…

Answer #2

umm i wouldnt try it… most likely you would end up dead

Answer #3

its not the best to even go swimming on your period, tampon or not. i heard it wasn’t good atleast lol

Answer #4

Yea they can smell the blood, I wouldn’t do it

Answer #5

I’m a swimmer and my period has never stopped me from training or competing. I’ve never had any trouble from swimming either. So I don’t believe its bad for you to swim when you’re on your period. This is like saying its bad to take a bath while on your period. Its nonsense.

Answer #6

Even if they attract sharks, unless you’re swimming in the deep sea, swimming on the beach shouldn’t be a problem. Sharks don’t typically go close to shore except on rare occasions

Answer #7

Generally you can’t menstruate in water really anyway, because of the water pressure, so I very much doubt it. Plus you would have a thick wetsuit on if in that sort of water, meaning the smell would not get through. Sharks only really attack if provoked, a lot are pretty harmless.

Answer #8

I asked my diving teacher abt that and he said that it doesn’t. So maybe it’s to little to do anything. :)

Answer #9

It does not so don’t worry abt it. :D

Answer #10

Haha! That’s a bit dramatic don’t u think? LOL! :D

Answer #11

xD who would want to try to attack sharks ;P ?

Answer #12

Did u know u r more likly 2 b struck by lightning then b attacked by a shark?.

Answer #13

D: I don’t want either to happen… I’m just sayin’ if you’ve ever seen soul surfer you probably wouldn’t take the chance. Even if it is just a movie… it did happen.

Answer #14

Nor do I but “ most likly u’d end up dead”? Aaaa I think I’m a bit of a drama queen too. Wat abt u Katie? :D

Answer #15

Yeah, just a little :P Most likly you wouldn’t end up dead :P

Answer #16

Probably but they are actually affected more by movement which is why surfers are in major danger at all times.

Answer #17

eww

Answer #18

yes! i live on a 2 mile island! sharks will sneak their little fins right up to ya!

Answer #19

Yes it definitely does. It’s because of the reason that menstrual blood is still blood. It doesn’t matter if the blood is because of your periods or it’s from a cut or wound, blood is blood and if they get the smell you are ‘dead meat’ in layman’s terms.

However this can be avoided by:

1.Swimming close to the shore, sharks are mostly unlikely to come and get you near the shore.

2.Not swimming at all in a shark prone area if you are not interested in inviting death.

3.Not swimming in shark prone areas with cuts or during your periods.

Sharks have super sensitive smell sense and they can smell blood from a pretty long distance, even a drop can cause enough harm to provoke the shark.

Well you can swim during your periods in:

1.Areas absolutely free of sharks.

2.While you are swimming near the shore.

The straight thing is it is better to avoid swimming during your periods.
