Why is medical insurance only for people 65 years and older?

really i was looking for a medical insurance but when i ask about it the people always tell me that this insurance is for people of 65 years and older, so that is why im confused.

If you live in the USA what you are talking about it’s called Medicare. It was created in 1965 by the US government to provide health insurance to people age 65 and older, regardless of income or medical history.

It was made for older adults because it was determined that they have more age related health problems are not as able to have an income as younger people do.

There is another plan for people of any age but they must have very low incomes or disabilities. That plan is called Medicaid.

Eventually in the USA the goal is to provide low cost medical access to every citizen and have just one health plan. This plan is what most people know as “Obamacare” but it is actually called “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”.

Only certain people have the goal of providing health care to all citizens. Many people philosophically are opposed to entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid and big money is against universal health care since many companies do quite well under the current system.

I wish “Obamacare” provided a single low-cost health plan to every American, as Elmo suggests, but it is a far cry from that. I hope that in the long run it will turn out to have been a first step in that direction. A bigger step would be for the federal government to offer Medicare as a health insurance plan that any U.S. resident of any age could purchase, alongside the menu of private health insurance options.

My dad is 49 and he gets stuff in the mail constantly from places trying to sell him extra health & life insurance. He also gets offers from funeral homes wanting to sell him pre planned funeral arrangements and stuff like that. He doesn’t like it, lol.
