Does it matter which ear is pierced on a girl?

Women have traditionally worn earrings on both ears. Until recent times earings were not worn by Western men except certain subgroups (sailors, jazz musicians, actors etc.) and in general men would only wear one earring. Sometimes earrings are worn by men to indicate sexual orientation. Unfortunately the meaning of piercings varied by geography. In some areas left meant straight and right gay but in other areas the meanings were opposite. Men wearing earrings in both ears is getting increasingly popular and is no indication of sexual identity. Today the only thing the side or number of earrings represents is what the wearer likes.
