How come manufactured music is so big these days?

It seems as though that’s all is ever in the charts which leads me to despair for the future of creativity and invention in the kids that are coming next. I’ve some idea of it being ‘safe and nice’ music but the lyrics are terrible. Anyone else feel this way??

Just like everything else - its a fad and whats popular with the current generation and it too shall pass. Music goes through fads over time just as clothes, words, etc do. There have been times in music where the songs on the radio were all about nothing but war, dr.ugs, discos, etc. Its all about whats popular at the moment and what will sell cds and make the most money.

The fear though is that it’s going to be like this forever. There has always been love songs and pop culture but this whole X-Factor and American Idol crap seems to have engulfed everyone over the past few years. The boy and girl bands who sing about being in love in one song then breaking up in their next song then back in love again really get to me. I love Bowie and yet if he was to enter a contest like that he would not get through round 1. I know what you mean though :-/
